Fastmarkets is increasing the frequency of its Brazilian domestic steel price assessments to a biweekly basis to bring them into closer alignment with current trading patterns and market dynamics.
Under the change, Fastmarkets would publish these prices twice a month, on the second and fourth Friday of the month, at 2-3 pm New York time.
This proposal follows recent changes in Brazil’s import environment, including the introduction of anti-dumping measures and higher import tariffs. The Brazilian steel market has changed significantly in recent months as domestic mills have sought measures to curb Chinese imports. These developments have resulted in official anti-dumping actions and higher import tariffs, which have led to shifts in trading terms and pricing behavior in the domestic market.
Market sources have reported prices that move more frequently than before. In addition, Fastmarkets has received requests from market participants for greater assessment frequency in order to track price movements more reliably.
The following prices would be changed under the proposal:
MB-STE-0007 Steel hot-rolled coil domestic monthly, exw Brazil, reais/tonneMB-STE-0005 Steel cold-rolled coil domestic monthly, exw Brazil, reais/tonneMB-STE-0006 Steel hot-dipped galvanized coil domestic monthly, exw Brazil, reais/tonneMB-STE-0008 Steel reinforcing bar (rebar) domestic monthly, delivered Brazil, reais/tonne
