Fastmarkets launches used cooking oil, FOB Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Ghent

Fastmarkets has launched used cooking oil (UCO), FOB Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Ghent (ARAG), $/tonne assessment on Thursday April 30, to provide greater transparency in the European waste-based biofuel feedstocks market and improve the existing coverage of UCO in the region.

Demand for waste-based feedstocks for both Renewable Energy Directive (RED) Annex IX A and Annex IX B has been steadily rising and overtaking crop-based feedstocks in European biofuel production over the past several years, reaching a total of 9 million metric tonnes in 2024, the latest European Biodiesel Board data shows, with UCO accounting for 24% of biofuel production. 

The methodology of the new price will reflect the following:

AG-UCO-0017 Used cooking oil (UCO), FOB Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Ghent (ARAG), $/tonne
Quality: Free fatty acids (FFA) max. 5%, moisture, impurities and unsaponifiable matter (MIU) max. 2%, iodine value (IV) min. 70 g iodine/hg, sulfur content max. 50 ppm, ISCC certified
Quantity: Minimum 100 tonnes
Location: Netherlands, Belgium, fob
Timing: Loading within 30 days following the assessment day
Unit: USD/tonne
Data window: Daily, up to 4 pm London time
