Viral Shah is a Strategic Markets Editor at Fastmarkets, where he focuses on battery raw materials and energy transition metals, since rejoining in 2025.

Viral’s focus is on developing Fastmarkets' price assessment strategy, including developing new price assessments and ensuring our current price offering remains relevant for indexing & physical adoption. This involves regularly engaging with market participants to build trust and adoption of Fastmarkets' prices, as well as speaking at Fastmarkets' and external events.

He previously worked at Platts, part of S&P Global, over 2019-2025, initially leading coverage of key ferrous benchmarks, and later managing the Low Carbon and Base Metals EMEA price reporting team. Viral started his price reporting career at Fastmarkets in 2015. In his first stint, he covered stainless steel, scrap and carbon long steel.
He holds a financial journalism MA from City University London and Aarhus University, Denmark, as well as a BA in English Literature from the University of Warwick.
