Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange are slightly weaker across the board this morning, Thursday March 30, with three-month prices down between 0.1% for aluminium and 0.5% for lead, nickel and copper, with the latter at $5,877 per tonne.

After last week’s stronger tone in the base metals, this week is seeing some weakness with the metals trading on the London Metal Exchange down an average of 0.5% this morning, Wednesday March 22.

Base metals prices are up an average of 0.6% with gains seen across the board on the London Metal Exchange this morning, Thursday June 8, helped by better Chinese trade data that showed imports and exports picked up in May.

The rebounds in the base metals have paused in recent days; we wait to see if the better-than-expected Chinese official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) acts as a boost as we approach September and the end of the summer slowdown.

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange are for the most part stronger today, Thursday March 29, with prices up by an average of 0.6%. Nickel leads the advance with a 2% rise to $13,300 per tonne, while copper is up by 1% at $6,732 per tonne.

The Chinese ferro-silicon market has climbed amid a shortage of supplies and increased raw materials costs, while the USA and Europe are holding despite little spot buying interest amid the seasonal slowdown.
