Positive headlines regarding continuing US-China trade talks have fueled a recovery in global risk sentiment so far on Friday March 29, subsequently providing support to three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange.

Base metals prices are for the most part consolidating this morning, Thursday May 4, with prices down an average of 0.2% on the London Metal Exchange. Nickel prices are off the most, down 0.7% at $9,170 per tonne, while copper is little changed at $5,592 per tonne. Volume has been high with 8,448 lots traded as of 06:54 BST.

Domestic coal prices in China are expected to remain stable for May, with supply tightness in the seaborne coking coal market limiting downward movement while weakening sentiment in the steel market and lack of production curbs are thwarting an upside.

Three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange had a mixed start to trading on Tuesday March 26 while recessionary fears subsided.
