Proposal to launch European low-sulfur green petroleum coke price assessment

Fastmarkets proposes to launch a new monthly price assessment for green petroleum coke, 1.5% S, in-whs ARA, $/tonne.

Green petroleum coke is a vital feedstock for synthetic graphite anode materials used in lithium-ion batteries. The price launch will bring greater transparency to the battery anode market in Europe and joins Fastmarkets’ existing synthetic battery anode feedstock prices that track the Chinese market.

Low-sulfur green petroleum coke is also used as a feedstock in aluminium smelting, and this price will also support transparency in that sector.

The proposed price specification is as follows:
Green petroleum coke, 1.5% S, in-whs ARA, $/tonne
Quality: Sulfur 1.5% max, nitrogen 2% max, noisture 8% max, ash 0.6% max, volatiles 12% max, V 250ppm max, Fe 250ppm max, Si 250ppm max
Location: In-warehouse Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp
Timing: Spot
Unit: $/tonne
Publication: Monthly, final Thursday of the month, 4pm London time.

These prices will be a part of Fastmarkets’ Industrial Minerals Package.

The consultation period for this proposed launch starts on Thursday August 14 and will end on September 11. The launch will take place, subject to market feedback, on September 25.
