After having had a particularly good run in a specific metal, a trader who ran one of late Glencore founder Marc Rich’s books was invited to his house.

Unbeknown to him, his colleagues had likened this to becoming a “made man” (Mafia parlance for an anointed son).

As the trader was waiting for the security gates to slide open at Mr Rich’s house, his phone rang.

When he answered it, his colleagues at head office whispered: “Remember Tommy De Vito, the Joe Pesci character in Goodfellas…”

He still continues to trade today.
