Tennant Metals taps ex-Mercuria team to expand concentrates trading

Jose Leon has joined Tennant Metals, with the group looking to expand its presence in metal concentrates trading, sources told Fastmarkets.

Leon developed one of the metal market’s largest trading books in copper, zinc and lead concentrates during six years at energy-focused Mercuria, before departing at the end of last year after the company restructured its operations.

Alexander Schwarz, another former Mercuria metals executive, has also been hired by Tennant Metals, Fastmarkets understands. Both will be based out of London and will be trading base and precious metal concentrates.

Tennant Metals was founded in its current form in 1966, but traces its roots back to C Tennant, Sons & Company, a founding member of the London Metal Exchange in 1877.

In 2011, it became part of the Metalcorp Group, which owns a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals assets including the BAGR Berliner secondary aluminium plant and Société des Bauxites de Guinée.

Tennant Metals representatives declined to comment when approached by Fastmarkets.
