The European Union is expected to delay the implementation of its Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) law for a second time, following a statement made by the environment commissioner, Jessica Roswall, on Tuesday September 23.

The European Commission has proposed to delay the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to December 30, 2025 for large companies and June 30, 2026 for micro and small enterprises and has invited the European Parliament and the Council to adopt this proposal by the end of the year. The new EU Deforestation Regulation mandates exporters to provide detailed documentation and geolocation data to prove wood products are deforestation-free.

“This postponement will allow third countries, member states, operators and traders to be fully prepared in their due diligence obligations," the European Council said.
