Base metals on the London Metal Exchange are up across the board this morning, Thursday June 15, with prices up by an average of 0.6%. The move has happened at a higher than average volume of 8,685 lots as of 07:03 BST.

With the exception of China’s CSI 300, Asian-Pacific equities and pre-market major western equity futures were weaker this morning, Tuesday July 7, while base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were mixed, although in general were holding up well.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were all down at the close of morning trading on Thursday January 23, the final trading day before Lunar New Year holidays kick off in China.

Concerns about weak economic data, geopolitical headwinds and the risk of a slow slide toward global recession are dominating market sentiment; short-term relief may come from more concerted central bank stimulus, but the real cure will only likely come from a new trade deal.

The base metals on the London Metal Exchange are firmer this morning, Wednesday July 12, with prices up an average of 0.3%, led by 0.5% gains in copper ($5,906 per tonne) and lead ($2,321 per tonne).

Global risk sentiment improved on Monday June 10 after the United States reached a last-minute trade deal with Mexico over the weekend, averting the imposition of a 5% tariff on all Mexican goods entering the US.
