Base metal prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were broadly down during Asian morning trading on Thursday May 3 amid continued strength in the dollar, with only aluminium bucking the general weakness.

The base metals have opened up on a strong footing this morning, Tuesday January 10, boosted by stronger than expected PPI data out of China – it was up 5.5%, compared with 3.3% in November, although CPI slipped to 2.1% from 2.3%.

Base metals are consolidating recent gains with prices off by 0.4% on average this morning, Friday July 28. Tin leads the decline with a 0.7% price fall to $20,565 per tonne, followed by copper prices that are off 0.6% at $6,284 per tonne and nickel prices that are down 0.5%, while the rest are off around 0.2%.

Stronger than expected Chinese official PMI manufacturing data at 51.7, compared with 51.4 previous and 51.3 expected, has given most of the base metals a boost this morning, Thursday August 31.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange mostly edged upward during the morning trading session on Friday December 6, with a weak US dollar providing broad support to the complex.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were mixed during morning trading on Monday March 11, with the complex reacting to the uninspiring Chinese economic data released over the weekend.

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange are treading water this morning, Tuesday May 23, with prices down an average of 0.2%.
