Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were up across the board during morning trading on Wednesday June 19 amid renewed trade optimism and a more dovish tone from policymakers.

Barring those for nickel and tin, base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were all down during morning trading on Friday August 2 after a surprise tariff announcement from the United States escalated trade tensions with China.

Metal Bulletin Research topped the base metals leaderboard in the Apex fourth-quarter 2017 contest, with an accuracy rating of 99.35%.

Three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were mixed this morning, Monday February 4, with copper down by 0.4% at $6,116 per tonne and zinc leading on the upside with a 0.6% gain. Aluminium, nickel and lead were all up by 0.2% and tin was little changed.

Copper outperformed its peers on the Shanghai Futures Exchange with an uptick of 0.4% during morning trading on Tuesday June 4, with a sharp fall in the dollar overnight providing support to the red metal.

The base metals on the London Metal Exchange are up across the board by an average of 0.5% this morning, Thursday October 26. Aluminium leads the way with a 0.9% rally to $2,209.50 per tonne – the high so far has been $2,215, which means prices have surpassed the October 2012 peak of $2,212. Copper prices ($7,022 per tonne) and tin prices are up 0.2%, while the rest are up between 0.5% and 0.6%.

Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange fell below the key $6,500 mark following the tumble in crude oil prices before rallying back slightly in Asian trade on Friday November 28.

A wave of risk-on is flowing through broader markets this morning, Monday August 19, on expectations that central banks will provide stimulus going forward to cushion moves toward recession.
