Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were mixed during morning trading on Friday May 17, after positive US data releases overnight could offer only some respite from the continuing US-China trade war.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Exchange broadly weakened during Asian morning trading on Thursday June 27, dragged down by a firm dollar and persisting uncertainty surrounding US-China trade relations.

Three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were up across the board by an average of 0.5% on the morning of Monday July 23. Gains were ranged between 0.1% for aluminium and 1.2% for zinc, with copper up by 0.3% at $6,172 per tonne.

Germanium prices in Europe fell on Wednesday June 14 as a result of surplus material available in China and low demand from end users.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange remained under pressure from simmering global trade tensions as well as a firm dollar during Asian morning trading on Wednesday June 27, but the complex has benefited from a slight improvement in risk sentiment overnight with most prices edging upward.

The outlook for base metals is a positive one, with copper ready to push into a long period of bullishness, said Guy Wolf, Marex Spectron’s global head of market analytics.

While aluminium prices are up 0.1%, nickel prices are up 0.3% and tin prices are up 0.7%.
