With Chinese participants returning from holiday, they have taken to selling into the recent metal price gains, with the three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange for the most part weaker during morning trading on Tuesday September 25.

At the end of another busy week in the Metal Bulletin newsrooms, deputy editor Fleur Ritzema takes a look back at some of the key stories.

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange are mixed this morning, Tuesday June 20, with copper and zinc prices both down 0.4% with three-month copper prices at $5,701 per tonne, while the rest of the metals are up between 0.1% and 0.3%.

Volatility has picked up in the base metals trading on the London Metals Exchange in recent days, with prices down an average of 0.4% this morning, Thursday March 23. This is after prices rebounded on Wednesday afternoon following a bout of weakness that started on Monday.

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were up across the board on Wednesday November 1, with nickel prices hiking 5.7%.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange broadly consolidated during Asian morning trading on Friday November 30, with the market focused on the upcoming Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Argentina – where US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are due to meet.

Base metals prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were broadly down during Asian morning trading on Thursday November 22 despite the recent softness in the dollar; copper and aluminium were little changed with a slight upward bias, while the rest were lower across the board.

Three-month base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were generally firmer this morning, Friday January 4, with copper, nickel, zinc and lead up by an average of 0.8% – with copper up by 1.1% at $5,840 per tonne. Aluminium and tin bucked the trend, however, to decline by 0.5% and 0.1% respectively.

Base metal prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were up across the board during Asian morning trading on Monday November 19, supported by a retreat in the dollar following dovish rhetoric from the United States Federal Reserve at the end of last week.
