Proposal to amend US SAF methodology: pricing notice

Fastmarkets proposes to amend the methodology for assessing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) base cost of production in the US, effective January 5, 2026.

These changes are based partly on market feedback and changes to regional production and SAF flows to Chicago and Los Angeles. Additionally, the calculations for feedstock production volume loss have been updated with market feedback.

The proposed changes would re-calculate weighted fixed production costs in each region and would reflect changes to producers in each region, as well as changes to regional product flows.

The following assessments would be affected. Examples of the current assessment values and proposed changes are as follows:

For AG-SAF-0001 sustainable aviation fuel, base cost, ex-works Houston the assessment dated November 5 showed a base cost of $6.2855 per gallon, with a proposed reduction to $5.3279 per gallon.

For AG-SAF-0002 SAF, base cost, delivered Los Angeles the base cost was assessed at $7.5207 per gallon on November 5, with a proposed base cost of $5.3748 per gallon.

Lastly, AG-SAF-0003 SAF, base cost, delivered Chicago currently stands at $6.3855 per gallon, with a proposed change to $5.4279 per gallon.

These prices are a part of the Fastmarkets ags oils, fats and biofuels prices.

The consultation period for this proposed launch starts from Wednesday December 3 and will end on December 31. The amendment will take place, subject to market feedback, on January 5.
