Fastmarkets launches CORSIA Phase 1 conditional offtake price assessment

Fastmarkets has launched a Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) Phase 1 conditional offtake price assessment on Wednesday April 29.

Despite a steady stream of new Phase 1 eligible spot supply entering the market over the past few months, there remains supply bottlenecks caused by delays in host country authorisations and submission of biennial transparency reports (BTRs).

Some developers have looked towards conditional offtakes to secure sales before all the necessary eligibility approvals have been granted, with delivery to take place upon tagging on registry.

This new price assessment aims to improve transparency within this market and highlight the price spread between spot Phase 1 eligible credits and those where developers make best efforts to get tagging before the end of the compliance period.

The new price and specification are as follows:

CB-CC-0035 CORSIA phase 1 conditional offtake, $/tCO2e
Quality: Assessment of conditional offtake for CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs) for the 2024-2026 compliance period (first phase) as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Credits are not-yet tagged as eligible on registry and seller does not commit to supplying replacement credits in event of non-tagging.
Quantity: Min 100,000 tCO2e
Vintage: 2021 to 2026
Registry: Those approved by ICAO for CORSIA Phase 1
Location: Global
Timing: Delivery by Jan 2028
Unit: USD per tonne of CO2 equivalent
Frequency: Weekly, Wednesday, London holiday schedule
Data window: Weekly, from end of previous window up to 12:30pm Wednesday London time
