Trade log: US HRC – Dec 21-24, 2020

Fastmarkets publishes trade logs for its key price assessments and indices to bring more transparency into the markets it covers and the pricing process it applies.

Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated in a range of $49.67-$50.06 per hundredweight ($993.40-1,001.20 per short ton) for the holiday week ended December 24. The four-day weekly average was $49.87 per cwt, up by 3.5% from an average of $48.18 per cwt the previous week.

The index was based on the following inputs:

  • Offer at $50 per cwt
  • Assessment at $50

  • Assessment at $50
  • Assessment at $49
  • Assessment at $50
  • Deal at $48.50 for medium tons
  • Deal at $47.50 for medium tons
  • Offer at $51
  • Assessment at $49.50

  • Offer at $50.75
  • Assessment at $53
  • Deal at $50 for small tons
  • Deal heard at $48.75
  • Assessment at $50
  • Offer at $51
  • Deal at $50
  • Deal heard at $50

Fastmarkets specifies volumes under one of the following four categories:
Small: 50-499 tons
Medium: 500-1,999 tons
Large: 2,000-9,999 tons
Extra-large: 10,000 tons or more

Any data submitted under a Data Submitter Agreement will not be published. Fastmarkets uses its expert judgment to exclude outlying or unrepresentative numbers, and discounts or discards prices that it believes might otherwise be questionable and/or unreliable. Discarded inputs are not included in this trade log, but when inputs are discarded, it is noted in the daily market report.
