Decision on proposal to launch a new price assessment for 50-lb unbleached kraft grocery bag paper

Following a market consultation period, Fastmarkets has decided to launch a price assessment for 50-lb unbleached kraft grocery bag paper in the open market in North America. The price line starts on Nov. 17, 2023.

The grade is being added so that the Heavyweight grade pricing will be provided for grocery bag paper. Fastmarkets already prices Lightweight grocery bag paper.

The new grade to be priced is the Unbleached Grocery bag, Heavyweight, 50 lb/80 g

This price line will run in the Fastmarkets online portal, mobile app, and Fastmarkets PPI Pulp & Paper Week, alongside existing price assessment for kraft paper in the US.

The new price assessment is based on open market net transaction levels after specific customer discounts. Our North American pricing team has researched this addition for kraft paper prices since earlier this year and developed a price series for this 50-lb grade back to November 2022.

Fastmarkets consulted on this change between July 7 and Aug. 18, 2023. No objections to the proposal were raised during the course of this consultation.
