Brazil’s soybean exports reach 1.4 million tonnes so far in January

Brazil's customs data revealed that soybean exports for the first two weeks of January 2024 has already surpassed the figure for all of January 2023

Brazil’s January soybean exports reached 1.4 million tonnes in the first two weeks of the month, surpassing the 839,588 tonnes sent abroad during the entire month of January 2023, the country’s customs data showed.

The average shipment volume per working day was 149,996 tonnes last week, lower than the 156,883 tonnes seen in the prior week but 293% above the 38,163 tonnes average pace seen in the same month last year.

Brazil’s Grain Exporters Association (Anec) pegged this month’s export estimates at 1.3 million tonnes.

Corn exports

Corn shipments amounted to 2.7 million tonnes in the first two weeks of 2024 compared to 6.1 million tonnes sent abroad in January last year.

Average daily shipments reached 300,059 tonnes, slightly lower than the 333,332 tonnes in the previous week but a 7.6% increase from January 2023’s average of 278,861 tonnes.

Anec projects total corn shipments in January will amount to 3.7 million tonnes.

Wheat exports

Brazil’s wheat exports reached 318,908 tonnes in the first two weeks of January, versus 561,519 tonnes shipped in the whole first month of 2023.

The daily average rate was 35,434 tonnes, up by 38.8% from the 25,523 tonnes seen in January last year.

According to Anec’s latest report, wheat exports are forecast at 605,483 tonnes this month.

Soy meal and oil exports

Brazilian soy meal exports amounted to 1 million tonnes in the first two weeks of January, while in the whole month in 2023 shipments totaled 1.4 million tonnes.

The average export rate per working day was 116,233 tonnes, 77% higher than the 65,684 tonnes average sent abroad in January last year. 

Anec pegged January soy meal exports at 2 million tonnes.

In the first week of January, the country’s vegetable oils and fats exports, composed mostly of soy oil, totaled 37,141 tonnes.

In the whole month of January 2023, Brazil exported 212,204 tonnes.

The average shipment pace per working day was 4,126 tonnes, down 57.2% when compared to the 9,645 tonnes average pace seen in the whole month a year earlier.
