Soybean futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were lower on Friday June 5 due to uncertainties around Chinese commitment to buy of US goods and a perfect storm in external and derived markets.

CPO futures extended losses on Friday June 5, erasing most of the week’s gains as weakness in related oils weighed on prices, while CME soyoil futures also declined, pressured by falling crude oil, legal challenges to rising US biofuel blending mandates and profit-taking.

CPO futures on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives (BMD) rebounded on Friday May 15, supported by bargain covering activities, firmer crude oil prices and a weaker ringgit, although gains were capped by weaker export demand and softer rival vegetable oils. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), soyoil futures traded lower on Friday, after data showed a decline in US soybean crush.

Crude palm oil (CPO) futures in Malaysia rebounded from their three-day decline to close higher on Thursday, following short-covering activities and a modest recovery in crude oil and related oils after a sharp sell-off the previous day. The spike in crude prices also underpinned Chicago soy oil futures, although the market posed only modest gains.

Vegoils futures traded largely higher on Monday March 30. Crude palm oil (CPO) surged, supported by a combination of bullish external cues and solid fundamentals. Meanwhile, soyoil futures climbed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange mainly supported by stronger energy prices and by a bullish sentiment on new US renewable fuels targets announced on Friday March 27.
